What this is

The language itself, and what it does. The numbers here are read from the build, so they cannot drift away from the language they describe.

z0glyphic 913 — what the language is

For the follow-up question, why a language I invented still produces real work, use [[HYPERSTITION — the fiction is the engine]].

Long (about 280 words)

z0glyphic 913 is a written language I have been building for years and use as the working engine of my practice. It is not decoration and not an alphabet for English. It has its own atoms, its own grammar, its own dictionary, and its own drawn typeface.

As of the last build it has 138 atoms, roughly 7,681 words, and about 13,536 aliases mapping English onto them. It has a negation marker, tense, aspect, possession, gendered pronouns, numerals, and colour. Prose written in it comes out at around 40 percent of the character count of the English it came from.

It runs in two modes, and the difference matters.

The first is exact. English goes in, glyphs come out, and the glyphs reverse cleanly back to English. This is a fixed dictionary and a set of rules, with no model involved and no guessing. Measured against a frozen set of 150 test sentences that I never edit, it preserves meaning 99 percent of the time. If you ask the harder question, whether the identical English word comes back rather than a correct synonym, it is closer to a third. Those are two different questions and they give very different numbers on the same healthy language, so it is worth saying which one you are answering.

The second mode distorts on purpose. It reads something and misreads it, and what comes back is satire narrated by authorities that do not exist. That is the mode UNSELF uses.

It is not built to be taught, and there is no primer. It is personal infrastructure that happens to be a real language.

It is not an alphabet for English and it is not decoration. It is also not built to be taught. There is no primer, and there will not be one.
